Diabetes can be simply divided into two types, type 1 and type 2. Even though the basic reason behind the occurrence of diabetes is the same, that is the body not producing enough insulin, the causes behind each one are different. Type 1 diabetes is the more complicated of the two and the most difficult to deal with. This is because the cause of type 1 is not fully understood. One of the theories floating around is that there is a mysterious virus which attacks the pancreas. The pancreas is the organ responsible for insulin production.
Another theory is that it is a genetic disorder. Whatever the reason is, it is very difficult to prevent type 1 diabetes from occurring. However, this is not at all the case with type 2 diabetes. This type can actually be prevented.
The main reason why people get type 2 is because of unhealthy life style. Therefore changing oneâs lifestyle is the easiest way to prevent type 2 diabetes. So what is meant by healthy life style? To start with, regular exercise and proper diet is key to preventing type 2 diabetes. By exercise it is meant by doing at least 25 to 30 minutes of moderate intensity workouts every day. The idea is to lose at least seven percent of oneâs body weight. Overweight people are at higher risk to get type 2. Symptoms for both types are similar. They include constant thirst and hunger, frequent urination, sudden decrease in weight without dieting or exercise.
