Steroids

Steranes or cyclopentane molecule - perhydro-phenanthrene

The steroids are derived from the core ciclopentanoperhidrofenantreno or steranes consisting of carbon and hydrogen forming four fused rings, three hexagonal and one pentagonal, has 17 atoms carbon.  On steroids this basic structure is modified by the addition of various functional groups, such as carbonyls and hydroxyl (hydrophilic) and hydrocarbon chains (hydrophobic).

Chemical structure

The core of steranes is fairly rigid structure with a nearly flat. Derivatives of this nucleus has methyl groups (- CH3) at positions 10 and 13 represent 18 and 19 carbons and a carbonyl or a hydroxyl at carbon 3, generally there is also a lateral hydrocarbon chain at carbon 17, the length of the chain and the presence of methyl, hydroxyl or carbonyl determines the different structures of these substances.

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a lifelong disease characterized by high levels of glucose in the bloodstream. The food we eat is broken down by our body into glucose and enters our bloodstream. Glucose is the driving fuel that gives us the energy required to get on with our daily activities. But, for it to be able to do that, glucose needs to deposited from our blood into our cells. Our pancreas produce a hormone called insulin, which is responsible for collecting the glucose from our blood, and depositing it into our cells. If the pancreas do not produce sufficient insulin, or if the produced insulin is not used by the body effectively, the glucose remains in the blood and continues to accumulate, resulting in diabetes.

There are mainly two types of diabetes. In Type 1 diabetes, pancreas do not produce insulin at all. This type of diabetes occurs in children and young adults, and accounts for only 5% of all diabetic cases. Type 1 diabetes is the more complicated of the two and the most difficult to deal with. This is because the cause of type 1 is not fully understood. One of the theories floating around is that there is a mysterious virus which attacks the pancreas. The pancreas is the organ responsible for insulin production. Read more »

Depression

Life is full of peaks and valleys. Depression comes in different forms.  We will not discuss the severe forms of depression, but the mild form, like how you feel on the “it-has-no-point” and “I-would-stay-in-bed-lying” day. Because for these phases there are simple tips and tricks that can help you out.
Tip 1: Do not take yourself too seriously
Benjamin Franklin said: “The only two things you can not walk away from in life – death and taxes”. In addition, he forgot one thing: “grief”. Sadness also no one can escape. Everyone becomes sad in his life. Sometimes you can be sad and depressed about things that are really not that bad. Do not be sad. Self-pity gets you nowhere. Keep in mind that even this difficult time will pass.
Tip 2: Go do something
Do not stay home on the sofa sitting lost in thought. This way you will stay in that circle going around. Go do something! What you will do is not so important as you become active. Go hiking in the woods, grab your bike and go to the market or go on visit to an old friend. Evrything is better than staying at home in front of the TV.

Tip 3: Where you can experience fun?
If you’re depressed, you often do not feel like doing anything. Probably reading the tip 2 you think “phew, I have no desire!” or “Tip 3 What?”. Well, this tip is just for you!
Write a list of activities you normally enjoyed doing. Okay, you feel like nothing fun to do. However, if you list your fun things to do, you just select one of them and go do it. You’ll see, you will after a while secretly really have fun. Read more »

How Much Does A White Smile Worth?

No matter the accomplishments we may achieve, without a bright, white and clean smile, none of this will matter to those around us. Without a well-rounded physical appearance, a bright future could be harder to obtain. Since our physical appearance is what people notice first and foremost, it’s vitally important that we present ourselves in the most attractive manner as possible. While many consider a flashy car, tailored clothing or even an expensive home as a sign of good taste and success, one can never underestimate the affect a bright smile can have on continued and future successes.

Presented by the media, the socially accepted perception of beauty is simple. Fit and trim models with heads held high all hold the pinnacle of the socially desired appearance. Enviable looks include heads full of thick, lustrous hair and evenly toned skin complimented by a perfectly styled wardrobe. But nothing can ruin such a vision as quickly as a dingy smile. Flashing a wide-opened mouth full of dull, stained teeth, or even worse, broken or missing teeth, speaks to the quality of the person no matter the clothing, skin or hair. While a bright and gleaming smile can provide the finishing touch to any appearance, an ill-kept mouth can give off the worst of impressions. Improper oral hygiene can cause offensively bad breath odors and dark stains on teeth will make for a poor first impression in any social setting.

But today, handy oral hygiene kits such as tongue scrapers and tooth whitening creams, strips and pastes make a dazzling, vivid smile consistently available and right at hand. Tongue scraper helps keep oral hygiene at its peak by scraping plaque and food residue from the tongue. This helps to prevent bad breath odors while reducing the risk of dental problems such as tooth decay or gingivitis. But even the straightest teeth need help at times. Those who are fortunate enough to have perfectly aligned teeth may still suffer from unsightly stains or dullness which can take away from their naturally beautiful smile. Tooth whitening kits can whiten and brighten teeth to a sparkling shine with little effort and great convenience.

With a bit of consistent effort, a white, bright and gleaming smile can go hand in hand with a bright and gleaming future! Read more »
